SC Softball Held off the Scoreboard in Saturday's Losses at (RV) OKWU

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – On Saturday afternoon, the Southwestern College softball team traveled down to Bartlesville, Okla. to battle the (RV) Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan in a pair of matchups. The Eagles showed dominance all day, as the Builders lost both their bouts by final scores of 8-0 in five innings.

A one-sided game one started off with two runs scored by the Eagles in the bottom of the second inning. A sacrifice fly to center field led to the first RBI of the game. Another single to left field gave Oklahoma Wesleyan a 2-0 lead in the game.

Additionally, the Eagles added three more runs to their score in the third inning. A double to left field, a double to right field, and a single to right field led to three RBIs and made it a 5-0 ballgame with a surmised four innings to play.

Down by five runs in the top of fourth inning, the Builders had to make some inroads to get back into the game. Unfortunately, a good pitching day by the Eagles hurlers made it difficult for the Builders' offense.

To end things early, OKWU added another three runs to the scoreboard in the fifth to make the score a final 8-0. An unearned run of an error by the SC center fielder, and a double and single to right field ended the game with a win for the Eagles.

Game two did not start any better, as the Builders found themselves down by four runs in the bottom of the second inning. An error by the catcher, an error by the second baseman and a two-RBI single to center field resulted in four runs added to the scoreboard.

Down by four, the Builders were able to hold off the Eagle offense in the third inning. Unfortunately, OKWU was able to tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout to second base helped the Eagles to continue their offensive run.

Again, to end things early in game two, the Eagles added another two runs to their score to end the game 8-0 in five innings.

A single hit in each game for the Builders were not enough to show any competitiveness towards a strong Eagles offense and defense. Each of Southwestern's hits came in the first inning of their respective battles, as Hannah Hlavenka ripped a double in the first inning of game one and Isabel Lytle led off game two with a single.

Alexus Johnson pitched game one in the circle and allowed eight total runs (six earned), as well as 11 hits. She had two strikeouts and two walks on the afternoon. Raleigh Kramer went to the slab for SC in the second battle, giving up nine hits and eight runs (two earned) in the latter bout of the twin bill.

The Builders (1-24, 0-10 KCAC) will have a chance to get back in the win column on Wednesday, Apr. 5 against Ecclesia College. Southwestern will host a non-conference doubleheader against them, starting at 1 p.m. at Broadway Sports Complex.
