WINFIELD, Kan. – On Monday afternoon, the Southwestern College men's tennis squad battled the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University at T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Winfield, Kan. The Builders were triumphant, as they swept the Eagles to start off the week on a great note.
The day started with a doubles win, as Ryan Kitchin and Pablo Rodriguez snagged a win over the number one doubles pair of Oklahoma Wesleyan. In match two, Logan Engela and Ignacio Rubio were defeated, as they lost their match, 6-4. However, the doubles point went to the Builders, as the Eagles had to forfeit the third doubles match.
Next up were the singles matchups, where the Builders summoned an impressive performance, as all SC players won their matches. The Moundbuilders' number one, Federico Poi, grabbed the first singles win of the day; winning his bout, 7-5, 6-1. Rodriguez did not hold back and added another win to the table; 6-1, 6-1. To keep the train running, Kitchin triumphed in his match by a final score of 6-4, 6-0. Modol and Engela both swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to add two more wins to the Builders side. The last game of the day went to the Builders, as the Eagles had to Forfeit their last battle, as they could not offer a sixth player.
The Builders (9-2, 8-0 KCAC) are back in action tomorrow, when they face the Bluejays of Tabor College at T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Winfield, Kan. The match was originally set to be played in Hillsboro, but challenges for Tabor have led to the match being moved to Southwestern's home courts. The (RV) SC women (7-1, 6-0 KCAC) will also battle the Bluejays, with both matches commencing at 4 p.m.
