TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship Final was played on Saturday morning in Topeka, as Southwestern College's squad did battle with the No. 21-ranked McPherson College Bulldogs. It was a matchup that was dominated by the top-seeded team in the tourney, as the Builders fell 4-0, but their season will now continue at the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
In the men's doubles competition, Ryan Kitchin and Pablo Rodriguez dropped their initial matchup of the tilt, as they were swept 6-0 by the top pair of the Bulldogs. Federico Poi and Albert Modol were also defeated, as they fell 6-3 to end the doubles competition. Logan Engela and Benjamin Erdmann were leading their matchup, but did not get to complete it with the other two matches going the way of McPherson.
The No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 matches in singles went to the Bulldogs, as Rodriguez dropped his tilt by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Then, Modol's 6-3, 6-4 loss led to a dire 3-0 deficit for SC. Engela was shut out to end the day for the Builders, as Poi, Kitchin and Erdmann were still in the midst of their bouts.
While it was a disappointing end to the KCAC Championship, the Moundbuilder men will now await their placement in the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Opening Round in Mobile, Ala.
