LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – On Thursday afternoon, the Southwestern College men's tennis squad journeyed northeast to battle the Spires of the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan. From the outset, complete dominance was displayed by the Builder side in a 7-0 triumph over the Spires.
In the doubles' competition, Ryan Kitchin and Pablo Rodriguez defeated the top doubles pairing of the Spires team, 6-1 to start things off. Federico Poi and Albert Modol were the second doubles pair for the SC men and were able to add another win for the Builders. The Builders earned their third doubles win due to forfeit.
The opening tilt in singles was won by Kitchin 6-1, 6-1. His teammate, Rodriguez followed his path and snagged the second singles win for the Builders, as he triumphed 6-1, 6-2 in his match. Modol, who started as the third Builder defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-1 to earn the third Builder triumph. To round things out, Ignacio Rubio took advantage of his opportunity, as he earned his first counting singles victory as a Moundbuilder (6-0, 6-1). Matches five and six were won by forfeit, making it a clean 7-0 win for the Builders.
The Builders (5-4, 4-1 KCAC) will return to the court for another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conferemce (KCAC) bout on Saturday, Apr. 8 when they host Kansas Wesleyan University at T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Winfield at 11 a.m.
