WINFIELD, Kan. - The Ottawa University Braves (7-1, 3-0) are set to face off against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders (6-2, 1-2) in a highly anticipated KCAC match-up at Stewart Field House. The Braves look to continue their win streak and remain unbeaten in conference play. The builders look to avenge their last two losses and get back to winning ways by grabbing a much-needed victory against a hot Ottawa team.Â
Scouting the Braves:Â
Ottawa enters this contest with a 7-1 record, having shown solid consistency both at home and on the road. In fact, their only loss this season comes to NAIA number 15-ranked Baker University.
Key players like Jayden Hibbitt (16.9 PPG), Keith Robinson (16.6 PPG), Deondre Buggage (15.5 PPG) and Najee Jones (11.4 PPG) have been major contributors for the Braves. Jayden Hibbitt and Deondre Buggage are two names known all around the conference as they are two returning all-conference players for the Braves. Jayden Hibbit continues to prove his 3-level scoring ability night in and night out. Deondre Buggage stands at 5-9 inches tall, but his game and scoring ability might as well be Goliath. These two continue to balance a scoring attack that is extremely hard to stop.
Two new transfers look to add to the scoring affairs this season for the Braves, Robinson and Jones. Robinson has shown great versatility early this season; along with his scoring, he averages (8.6) rebounds per game.Â
Jones is a transfer from Texas College, where he was a NAIA Third Team All-American last year. He looks to lead the Braves defensively, as he has already racked up KCAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades twice this year.Â
Southwestern Moundbuilders by the Numbers:Â
Southwestern College comes into the game with a 6-2 record, looking to bounce back from a couple of tough conference losses. Wyatt Bell has been the standout performer for the Moundbuilders, averaging 18.8 PPG and showcasing his scoring ability. Alongside him, Justin Demaria (14.4 PPG), Zach Hidalgo (13.4 PPG) and Evan Barber (12.9 PPG) have consistently contributed offensively, while Trey Abasolo has been a steady force in all aspects of the game, averaging (9.4 PPG), (6.3 RPG), and shooting (47%) from three.Â
Hidalgo, continues to be a terror on the glass averaging a whopping (14.0 RPG). As a team, the Builders will have to outpace the scoring attack brought onto them by the Braves.
Southwestern for the season shoots a respectable (45%) from the field, and (39%) from three. These numbers will have to be right at the average and then some if they look to take down the braves. Defensively, swarming Ottawa's scorers will be undeniably important.Â
