WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College Mound builders (15-6, 8-6) hit the road for a long trip to York, Nebraska, where they will take on the York College Panthers (5-15, 2-13) in a KCAC showdown. The Mound builders dominated the first meeting between the two teams, securing a 94-62 victory, and now look to complete the season sweep on the road.
Last time out, Southwestern controlled the game from start to finish, fueled by a standout performance from Wyatt Bell, who leads the team with 17.8 points per game (PPG). Trey Abasolo (10.1 PPG, 6.3 RPG) and Justin Di Maria (12.4 PPG, 4.5 RPG) also contributed heavily, with Di Maria recently surpassing 1,000 collegiate points. On the boards, Zach Hidalgo (12.8 RPG) played a key role in securing second-chance opportunities. Additionally, Southwestern's bench outscored York 33-22, showcasing the team's depth. The Mound builders have been efficient offensively, averaging 80.7 points per game while holding opponents to 68.1 PPG.
York College, looking for redemption at home, will lean on Chris Dixon (16.4 PPG) to lead the scoring effort, while Andrew Bennett (6.7 RPG) controls the rebounding game. Defensively, Carl Thorpe Jr. (1.6 SPG) provides a strong presence in the backcourt. However, the Panthers have struggled to contain opponents, allowing 80.9 points per game, a gap they will need to close to compete with Southwestern.
Southwestern has excelled on the road this season, posting a 6-2 record in away games, while York has had difficulty defending its home court. This matchup also carries added emotional weight for the Panthers, as head coach Trey Burke prepares for his final games with the program. With both teams looking to gain momentum late in the season, the Mound builders aim to replicate their dominant performance and return to Winfield with another crucial conference victory.
Tip-off is set for 3Â PM in York, Nebraska.
