WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern fell 4-0 to McPherson on Saturday, dropping to 9-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Despite putting five shots on goal, the Builders couldn't find the back of the net. Goalkeeper KJ made four saves, but after conceding two goals in the opening 10 minutes, Southwestern was unable to recover.
The Builders remain in fourth place in the KCAC standings and will look to bounce back at home against Ottawa University on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. The matchup carries significant weight as the regular season winds down, with both teams jockeying for postseason positioning.
Ottawa sits second in the KCAC with a 7-0-2 conference record and an 8-1-5 overall mark. Antonio Natalucci leads Ottawa with 10 goals and two assists this season, while Alonso Basauri has added seven goals and 10 assists. Matias Mazieres has also contributed seven goals and four assists. Goalkeeper David Martinez has recorded 32 saves on the year.
Southwestern will look to repeat its success from last season, when the Builders earned a 3-2 win over Ottawa. Jack Bagley-Etheridge, now the KCAC's leading goal scorer, scored one goal in that contest, with Marcos Benavidez and graduate Carlos Cantu also finding the net. Ottawa's Cale Scott scored both goals for the Braves, while Southwestern goalkeeper Andre Luiten made five saves. Ottawa's Marko de Sa Faria finished with one save.
With the conference season nearing its end, Wednesday's matchup under the lights promises to be a high-stakes, hard-fought battle that could play a key role in shaping the final KCAC standings.
