CHANUTE, Kan. – The Moundbuilders men's and women's cross country teams finished with no overall team score at the Neosho County Community College Panther Invitational on Friday evening.
Senior Lauryn Peterson set a season's best time of 27:46.1 in the women's 5,000-meter race. She improved by two seconds from her season-opening mark at Wichita State in September.
Derek Ponce-Gonzalez led the way for the men's program, setting an opening mark of 31:48 in the 8,000-meter race distance, earning him the 28th position. Senior Jamell Sanchez followed shortly behind, clocking a time of 32:09.8 and placing 34th of 60 runners.
The Moundbuilders will be back in action on Oct. 11 as the men's and women's teams travel to Lawrence for the Billy Mills Classic hosted by the Haskell Indian Nations University. The women's race is slated for a 5:55 p.m. start, with the men's race to follow at 6:25 p.m.
