WINFIELD, Kan – Southwestern looks to build upon a plethora of personal best results as the men's and women's cross country programs head to Leavenworth for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the University of Saint Mary (Kan.). The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start, with the men's 8,000-meter race to follow at 11 a.m.
Senior Lauryn Peterson will look to cap off her final collegiate cross country campaign with a personal best in the 6,000-meter distance and to be the main points scorer for the Builders. Cross country newcomers Lyra Codney, Kailee Dennis, Abigail Eckert, Vanessa Mendoza, and Malia Pearson will round out the roster for the championship event on the women's side.
On the men's side, Derek Ponce-Gonzalez and Jamell Sanchez will aim to set personal records for the second consecutive meet for the Moundbuilders. The duo will need to carry the boats for the Builders in the finishing position category, as newcomers Jack Titgemeyer, Dominique Orosco, Lyrix Howard, and Dashawn Haskin will make their cross-country debuts on the men's championship roster.
