WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College will look to build momentum from a tight home victory as the Moundbuilders travel to face nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday in a key early-season KCAC matchup.
Southwestern (6-3, 2-3 KCAC) edged Avila University 95-93 on Saturday behind one of its most balanced offensive performances of the season. Five Builders scored in double figures, led by Nigel John's 18 points. Zach Hidalgo added 16, and Austin Hilton provided a spark off the bench with another 16 as Southwestern snapped a brief skid in conference play.
The road test becomes significantly tougher against Oklahoma Wesleyan, which enters the week ranked No. 10 in the NAIA and riding an eight-game winning streak. The Eagles (9-1, 5-0) are coming off an 88-70 win over Sterling, continuing a dominant stretch that's kept them among the KCAC's most consistent programs. Oklahoma Wesleyan, last season's NAIA national runner-up, swept the regular-season series against Southwestern a year ago.
For the Builders, Wednesday's contest offers a chance at a statement victory. A road upset would provide a major boost before Southwestern returns home Saturday, Dec. 13, for its final KCAC matchup of the first semester.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla.
