Southwestern College Dance Team Prepares for Spring Competition Season; Fundraiser Launches at Home Games

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College Dance Team is preparing for the start of its spring competition season following a busy fall supporting Moundbuilder football and basketball. The team will continue to perform at home basketball games while transitioning into competition mode.

The program is also launching a Cheer and Dance Cookie Fundraiser, supported by local donors providing a variety of home-baked cookies. The fundraiser will operate at all home basketball games, excluding academic breaks. Proceeds will assist with travel, uniforms and competition-related needs.

Dance coach Nate, who is entering his first competitive season with the program, said the team's progress has been encouraging.

"I am really excited for my first competition year with this team," Nate said. "They have put in a lot of hard work and training while supporting the SC football and basketball teams during the fall semester and will continue throughout the spring while competing. There will be a special halftime performance of our competition routine at the Jan. 17 men's home game."

Head cheer and dance coach Alissa Sheppard said she is looking forward to the competition season and praised the work done behind the scenes.

"I'm excited for this upcoming competition season, but I'm also proud to see Coach Nate step into his first year creating routines and leading our dancers," Sheppard said. "The team has put in a tremendous amount of work, and I can't wait to see it showcased on competition day."
