Southwestern Dance Team Wraps Up First Competition in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. — The Southwestern College dance team opened its 2026 competition season on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Friends University Falcon Invitational, finishing seventh in a competitive field at Friends University.

The Moundbuilders took the floor at 5 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas, marking the team's first competition of the season. While the final placement did not reflect the full scope of their preparation, the dancers displayed poise and determination after weeks of hard work leading up to the event.

Southwestern spent the preseason refining its routine and building consistency as the team prepared for its first competition of the year. The event provided valuable experience as the Moundbuilders continue to develop chemistry and execution.

The dance team will perform its competition routine at halftime of the Southwestern men's basketball game at Stewart Field House, giving fans an opportunity to see the routine live.

Southwestern now looks ahead to the Bethel College on Saturday, Feb. 7, in North Newton, Kansas. The team is focused on applying lessons learned from the season opener as it prepares for the next competition.

Off the floor, the cheer and dance teams will continue fundraising efforts through bake sales at Southwestern home basketball games to help support travel and competition expenses.

With the season underway, Southwestern remains committed to continued growth and improvement as it prepares for the remainder of the competitive schedule.
