WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College softball team is aiming to turn things around as it prepares for its next conference matchup. After a challenging start to Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play, the Moundbuilders (5-7, 0-4 KCAC) are looking to snap a four-game skid and regain momentum.
Southwestern's offense has shown promise, batting .298 overall, but has struggled in conference play, hitting just .171. Junior outfielder Lainey Hardman has been a key contributor at the plate, leading the team with a .379 batting average, two extra-base hits, and nine RBIs. Fellow junior Tiara Henry has also been productive, batting .371 with 10 RBIs.
On the mound, sophomore Faith Campbell (1-1) leads the Builders with 32.2 innings pitched and a 5.36 ERA. Freshman Morgan Shaw (1-1) has provided solid innings, posting a 3.90 ERA across six appearances. However, the staff will need to lower its 7.27 team ERA and improve against conference opponents.
Despite a 3-0 record at home, the Moundbuilders have struggled on the road, going 2-6. With several key matchups ahead, Southwestern aims to capitalize on home-field advantage and get back in the win column.
The Moundbuilders will return to action soon, seeking a victory and a chance to build momentum in the second half of the season.
