Game Preview: Southwestern Softball VS Sterling

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern softball team is looking to turn things around after a rocky start to the 2024-25 season, struggling in conference play but showing signs of promise in non-conference matchups.

The Moundbuilders (6-10, 0-6 KCAC) have yet to secure a conference victory, dropping their first six league contests. Despite the rough stretch, the team has put together competitive performances, including a hard-fought 9-7 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan on March 20.

Offensively, Southwestern has been led by junior catcher Tiara Henry, who boasts a .395 batting average with 11 RBIs. Freshman Emily Garza has also contributed, hitting .353 while reaching base at a .405 clip. The team's overall batting average sits at .287, but that number dips to .238 in conference play.

On the mound, sophomore Faith Campbell has been the workhorse, throwing 43.1 innings with a 5.49 ERA. Freshman Morgan Shaw has also seen significant action, tallying 27.2 innings and a 4.81 ERA. However, the team's overall earned run average of 7.05 has been a challenge, with opponents hitting .361 against them.

Southwestern will look to snap its two-game losing streak in upcoming matchups, hoping to build momentum as the season progresses.
