Box Score 2 KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Southwestern College struggled to generate offense in a road doubleheader against Avila University on Tuesday, dropping both games by scores of 9–1 and 8–0 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
In Game 1, the Moundbuilders (6–13, 0–5 KCAC) managed just four hits in a 9–1 loss. Junior outfielder Reagan Wright provided the lone run, reaching on a single, stealing third, and scoring on a throwing error by the catcher. Junior catcher Tiara Henry added a double, while sophomore third baseman Fayth Howard and Senior first baseman Nina Celestino each chipped in singles.
Avila (17–10, 7–0 KCAC) used a pair of home runs in the first inning and tallied 12 hits overall. Southwestern starter Faith Campbell was charged with allowing six runs over four innings. Makenzie Miller pitched in relief.
In Game 2, the Moundbuilders' offense was held to just one hit—a double by freshman Mackenzie Reinert—in an 8–0 defeat. Southwestern was unable to solve Avila starter Mya Daniels, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter over five innings.
Southwestern's best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when Reinert doubled with two outs, but the team couldn't capitalize. Daniels struck out three and faced just one batter over the minimum.
On the defensive side, Southwestern pitchers Morgan Shaw and Emma Willesden combined to allow eight runs on 12 hits. Shaw went 4.1 innings before giving way to Willesden in the fifth.
Southwestern will look to bounce back this weekend in another conference matchup, continuing their pursuit of their first KCAC win of the season.
