WINFIELD, Kan.  — Riding a three-game winning streak, the Southwestern College softball team is set to take on Ecclesia College in a non-conference matchup. The Moundbuilders (3-1) have been solid both at the plate and in the circle, boasting a .321 team batting average and a 3.75 ERA through their first four games.
Southwestern is coming off a dominant doubleheader sweep against Mission (Mo.), where the team outscored its opponent 14-4 over two games. Junior outfielder Lainey Hardman has been a key contributor, hitting .500 with seven RBIs, while freshman Mackenzie Reinert leads the team in runs scored (4) and stolen bases (2). Pitching depth has also been a strength, with sophomore Faith Campbell posting a 1.43 WHIP across 14 innings.
Ecclesia College (1-11) enters the contest struggling to find consistency. The Royals have allowed an 11.07 team ERA and have given up 160 runs in 12 games. Offensively, they are led by Western Mussett (.500 avg, 2 HR, 7 RBIs) and Ariana Ortiz (.447 avg, 5 doubles, 4 RBIs), but their pitching staff has struggled to keep opponents in check.
Southwestern will look to continue its aggressive approach at the plate and on the bases against an Ecclesia squad that has allowed 32 stolen bases this season. Defensively, the Moundbuilders aim to tighten up after committing nine errors in their first four games.First pitch is scheduled for 1PM Â
