WINFIELD, Kan. —Southwestern College returns home to try and end a three-game losing streak and secure a much-needed KCAC victory as the Moundbuilders host the University of Saint Mary in a conference doubleheader.
Southwestern (7-19, 1-15 KCAC) has endured a tough run through league play but will look to build on recent flashes of offensive life, including a 5-4 walk-off win against York last week. Junior catcher Tiara Henry continues to pace the Moundbuilders' offense, hitting .342 with 14 RBIs and a team-leading .493 slugging percentage. Junior outfielder Reagan Wright adds consistency at the top of the lineup with a .324 average and eight stolen bases.
The Builders will look for a strong showing from sophomore right-hander Faith Campbell, who leads the pitching staff in innings pitched (67.1) and strikeouts (32). Freshman Morgan Shaw is also expected to see time in the circle, bringing a 2-4 record and 6.91 ERA into the matchup.
Defensively, Southwestern has struggled at times, posting a .937 fielding percentage with 42 errors, but will aim to tighten up on their home turf where they've gone 4-7 this season.
Saint Mary (10-15, 5-9 KCAC) enters the series looking to climb the KCAC standings. The Spires are led by standout sophomore Taya James, who is hitting .456 with 6 home runs and 20 RBIs, and freshman Kenzie Palmer, who boasts a .424 average with 19 runs scored. As a team, Saint Mary hits .346 and has swiped 26 bases.
In the circle, Bella Valdivia anchors the Spires' staff with a 4.68 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 52.1 innings, while Saint Mary's pitchers have combined for a 6.59 team ERA.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Broadway Sports Complex.Â
