WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern quarterback Jamie Odom has been named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second straight time after delivering back-to-back offensive showcases against Ottawa and Bethany.
The junior followed last week's six-touchdown performance at Ottawa with an even bigger night at home Saturday, throwing for 416 yards and six scores while adding a rushing touchdown as the No. 20-ranked Moundbuilders blasted Bethany 80-14 in a non-divisional KCAC matchup.
Odom completed 13 of 16 passes, connecting on highlight-reel strikes of 92 and 65 yards to Matthew Holthus and a 71-yard bomb to Joe Smyth. He guided an offense that piled up 698 total yards and scored touchdowns on seven of its first nine drives. His seven total touchdowns gave him 13 over the past two weeks.
Against Ottawa, Odom threw for 270 yards, rushed for 74, and accounted for six total scores in a 61-10 victory. With Saturday's career-high 416 passing yards, he nearly doubled his production and directed the Moundbuilders to their second consecutive 60-point outing.
Southwestern, now 4-1, has outscored its last two opponents 141-24. With Odom leading a high-powered passing attack and the Builders hitting their stride, Southwestern has positioned itself as one of the KCAC's most explosive contenders.
