SALINA, Kan. — The Southwestern College women's golf team picked up its first team victory of the fall season Monday and Tuesday at the Central Plains Invite at Salina Country Club in Salina, Kansas. The Moundbuilders competed in a unique 2v2v2 match against Kansas Wesleyan University and Friends University, playing 18 holes each day for a total of 36 holes.

Southwestern came out on top of the three-team competition, posting a team score of 342 to secure first place.

Freshman Anna Kate Ownbey led the way for the Moundbuilders, capturing her first collegiate individual victory. Ownbey opened the tournament with a career-low 74 before following with an 83 in the second round to finish tied for first.

With the tournament ending in a tie at the top, the individual title was decided by a scorecard playoff. Ownbey ultimately came out on top to claim the championship and the first collegiate tournament win of her career.

Ownbey was particularly strong on the par-5 holes, playing them at even par to lead the field. She also recorded four birdies and 17 pars throughout the tournament.

Freshman Lilli Sympson also contributed to the Moundbuilders' team victory, carding rounds of 96 and 89 to finish in third place individually. Sympson recorded one birdie and seven pars over the two rounds.

The team victory marks another strong performance for the Moundbuilders this fall and gives Southwestern its first tournament title of the season.

The Moundbuilders will return to action October 12-13 when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, to compete in the Evangel Fall Invite.
