WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns to action Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Central Christian (Kan.) at Broadway Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., with Game 2 set for 5 p.m.
The Moundbuilders enter the matchup with a 3-1 overall record after opening the 2026 season with a four-game series against Graceland. Southwestern won three of the four contests and carries a one-game winning streak into Tuesday's play. The Builders outscored Graceland 18-10 across the series and remain unbeaten in day games this season.
Through four games, Southwestern is hitting .292 as a team with 31 hits and 17 RBIs. Eliana Ortiz has paced the offense with an .833 batting average (5-for-6) and three doubles. Ellie Kucera is batting .444, while Taylor Mesna (.429) and Tiara Henry (.333) have also provided steady production. Henry leads the team with five RBIs.
In the circle, Southwestern owns a 2.25 team ERA with 25 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Emma Willesden is 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA, allowing just one run over nine innings of work. Faith Campbell has posted a 2.00 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 14 innings. As a staff, the Builders are holding opponents to a .229 batting average.
Central Christian looks to regroup after finishing 15-32 last season, including an 8-28 mark in conference play. The Tigers hit .247 as a team in 2025, recording 281 hits and 157 RBIs.
Destiny Holt led Central Christian with a .330 batting average and 28 RBIs, while Camryn Frick added a .325 average and 38 hits. In the circle, Kayla Voss posted a 3.90 ERA and a 5-6 record, and Madalyn Griffin tallied 46 strikeouts in 77 innings. As a pitching staff, the Tigers finished with a 5.35 ERA and allowed opponents to hit .326.
Tuesday's doubleheader marks Southwestern's second consecutive home series to open the season. The Builders are 3-1 at home and will look to continue their strong start in front of the home crowd at Broadway Sports Complex.
