WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern returns home Tuesday looking to get back on track as the Moundbuilders host Avila in a conference-opening doubleheader at Broadway Sports Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the second game to follow at approximately 4 p.m.

Southwestern (4-4, 0-0) opened the season with a four-game split against Graceland and Central Christian before dropping two road contests at Southwestern Christian last week. The Builders are 4-2 at home this season and will be playing their first conference games of the year Tuesday afternoon.

Offensively, Southwestern is hitting .260 as a team through eight games, totaling 52 hits and 23 RBIs. Taylor Mesna leads the lineup with a .417 batting average and 10 hits, while Eliana Ortiz is batting .400 with a team-best three doubles. Jolie Boyd (.357) and Tiara Henry (.333, six RBIs) have also paced the Builders early in the season.

In the circle, Faith Campbell owns a 2.42 ERA with 28 strikeouts across 26 innings and has tossed three complete games. Emma Willesden is 2-1 on the season, while the staff has combined for a 3.63 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 52 innings.

Avila enters the matchup at 32-21 overall and 19-7 in conference play. The Eagles are hitting .353 as a team with 74 doubles and 14 home runs, averaging more than eight runs per game.

Sophia Medina leads Avila with a .600 batting average, while Alyra Megli is hitting .429 and Julia Poush stands at .324. In the circle, Mikayla Cotton carries a 2.54 ERA to lead the Eagles' pitching staff.

Tuesday's twinbill will serve as an early measuring stick for the Builders as they open conference play at home and look to build momentum heading into the heart of the season.
