WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern looks to bounce back Monday as the Moundbuilders travel to Springfield, Missouri, for a nonconference doubleheader against Mission University, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Southwestern enters the matchup at 5-19Â overall, aiming to snap a four-game skid and build momentum as the season progresses. The Moundbuilders have shown flashes offensively, led by Taylor Mesna, who is hitting a team-best .404 with 23 hits and nine runs scored. Jolie Boyd has also been a steady presence at the plate, batting .327, while Tiara Henry and Lainey Hardman have contributed timely offense.
Despite those efforts, Southwestern will look to find more consistency at the plate after early-season struggles. Generating offense early and limiting big innings defensively will be key areas of focus heading into Monday's contests.
In the circle, the Moundbuilders have leaned on Faith Campbell and Emma Willesden. Campbell leads the team in strikeouts, while Willesden has provided valuable innings this season. Continued development in the pitching staff will be important against a solid Mission lineup.
Mission enters the doubleheader at 10-8 overall and has been productive offensively, hitting .310 as a team. The Patriots are led by Haley Frillman and Courtney Merrell, who both rank among the team's top hitters, and bring a balanced attack into Monday's matchup.
The teams met earlier this season in a pair of competitive games, and Southwestern will look to build on those performances as it returns to the field for another opportunity on the road.
Monday's games offer the Moundbuilders a chance to reset and compete as they continue their schedule.
