WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College softball returns to action Saturday as the Moundbuilders host York University (Neb.) in a doubleheader at Broadway Sports Complex.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the second game set to follow at approximately 3 p.m.
Southwestern enters the contest with a 4-8 overall record, including a 4-4 mark at home, while looking to snap a six-game skid after its most recent games at Mission (Mo.).
The Moundbuilders have been led offensively by Taylor Mesna, who owns a team-best .424 batting average with 14 hits and four RBIs through the opening stretch of the season. Jolie Boyd has also been productive at the plate, hitting .375 with nine hits, while Tiara Henry adds balance in the lineup with nine hits and a team-high six RBIs.
In the circle, Southwestern has relied on Faith Campbell and Emma Willesden. Campbell holds a 4.03 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 33 innings, while Willesden has logged 30 innings with two wins for the Moundbuilders.
York enters the matchup with a 5-13 overall record. The Panthers feature a strong top of the lineup, led by Taylor Jones, who is batting .429 with 18 hits and 11 RBIs, and Lexi Knapp, who is hitting .400 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
As a team, York is batting .273 while opponents are hitting .335 against Panther pitching.
Southwestern will look to generate offense from the middle of the lineup while tightening up pitching and defense as the Moundbuilders aim to return to the win column Saturday afternoon in Winfield.
