SALINA, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Salina on April 17-18 to compete in the Coyote Classic, hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The two-day meet will feature a full slate of running and field events, beginning Friday with field events and distance races, followed by a complete schedule Saturday that includes relays, sprints, and hurdles.
Southwestern's women enter the meet led by sophomore Abigail Eckert, who has posted a season-best time of 13.41 seconds in the 100 meters and a top long jump mark of 4.49 meters. Senior Lauryn Peterson paces the distance group with times of 3:04.26 in the 800 meters and 6:24.77 in the 1,500 meters.
In the field events, sophomore Malia Pearson recorded a discus throw of 33.78 meters and a shot put mark of 10.71 meters, while senior Vanessa Mendoza leads the hammer throw with a top mark of 37.84 meters.
On the men's side, freshman Ben Patkowski has turned in a 100-meter time of 10.96 seconds and a 200-meter time of 22.49 seconds, while sophomore Dominique Orosco leads the 200 meters at 22.36 seconds.
Sophomore Manuel Reyes has posted times of 16.09 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 59.94 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Jack Titgemeyer leads the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.39.
In field events, freshman Luke Peffer recorded a high jump of 1.87 meters and a long jump of 6.78 meters, while sophomore Emerson Williams posted a throw of 39.73 meters in the hammer and 13.97 meters in the shot put.
Competition is scheduled to begin Friday afternoon with field events and distance races before concluding Saturday with a full schedule of track events, including the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays.
