SALINA, Kan. — Southwestern College turned in a series of solid performances, highlighted by multiple personal records and strong efforts in the throwing events, at the Coyote Classic hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University on April 17-18 at JRI Stadium.
On the men's side, Emerson Williams led the Moundbuilders in the throws, placing 10th in the shot put with a mark of 13.23 meters (43 feet, 5 inches) and adding a 17th-place finish in the discus at 34.60 meters (113-6), a personal record for Williams.
Anthony Mendoza contributed in both the shot put and hammer throw, recording a mark of 10.51 meters (34-5.75) in the shot put and 36.60 meters (120-1) in the hammer, the latter marking a personal-best performance.
JJ Crawford turned in a notable performance in the javelin, finishing seventh with a throw of 42.76 meters (140-3), a personal record.
On the track, Ben Patkowski placed eighth in the 100 meters in 11.17 seconds and added a 14th-place finish in the 200 meters at 23.45 seconds. Logan Churchill followed with a 16th-place showing in the 200 meters (23.75) and finished 15th in the 400 meters (52.57).
Manuel Reyes delivered one of the top finishes of the meet for Southwestern, placing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.40 seconds. Jamell Sanchez competed in the middle-distance events, finishing 41st in the 800 meters (2:26.11) and 27th in the 1,500 meters (5:00.66).
For the women, Malia Pearson paced the throwers with a 17th-place finish in the shot put at 9.77 meters (32-0.75). She also placed ninth in both the discus (35.03 meters, 114-11) and hammer throw (35.19 meters, 115-5).
Vanessa Mendoza added a 12th-place finish in the discus with a throw of 31.99 meters (104-11) and recorded a mark of 33.79 meters (110-10) in the hammer.
Southwestern continues its outdoor season with momentum, bolstered by multiple personal-best performances and consistent production in the field events.
