WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Baldwin City, Kansas, this weekend to compete in the ZK Invite hosted by Baker University. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, with events beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Liston Stadium.
The Moundbuilders will look to build on recent performances across multiple events as the outdoor season continues.
On the women's side, Southwestern has seen strong contributions from sophomore Abigail Eckert, who has posted a top time of 13.41 seconds in the 100 meters this season while also competing in the long jump, where she has recorded a mark of 4.49 meters. Senior Lauryn Peterson leads the distance events, turning in times of 3:04.26 in the 800 meters and 6:24.77 in the 1500 meters.
In the field events, sophomore Malia Pearson and senior Vanessa Mendoza have provided consistency in the throwing events. Pearson has recorded a discus throw of 35.03 meters and a shot put mark of 10.71 meters, while Mendoza has highlighted the hammer throw with a top mark of 37.84 meters.
The Southwestern men's team will also bring a balanced group to the meet, led by freshman Ben Patkowski, who has posted a season-best time of 10.96 seconds in the 100 meters. Dominique Orosco has contributed in the sprints with a 22.36 finish in the 200 meters, while Manuel Reyes has been active in the hurdles, recording a 16.09 time in the 110 hurdles and a 59.40 performance in the 400 hurdles.
In middle-distance events, Jack Titgemeyer leads the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.39, and Jamell Sanchez has paced the 1500 meters with a time of 5:00.66.
The field events have been highlighted by freshman Luke Peffer, who has cleared 1.87 meters in the high jump and posted a long jump of 6.78 meters. Emerson Williams has led the throws group, recording a mark of 39.73 meters in the hammer and 13.97 meters in the shot put.
With a mix of experienced upperclassmen and emerging underclassmen, Southwestern will aim to continue improving its performances and set new personal bests as they compete against a strong field at the ZK Invite.
