Southwestern College Announces the Hiring of Chris Dawson as Head Baseball Coach

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College athletic department announced on Tuesday, that they will welcome Chris Dawson as the new Head Baseball Coach effective Tuesday, June 7.

"Southwestern College is excited to announce Chris Dawson as the new leader of the baseball program," remarked Director of Athletics, Jamie Adams. "His energy and knowledge of the game will help the program take the next steps In the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. We are elated to have Coach Dawson as the newest head of the program."

Dawson arrives in Winfield after a three-year run as an assistant for a massively successful program at McPherson College within the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). In those years, there was improvement in regards to the Bulldogs' success.

In 2020, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, McPherson was off to an 18-7 start before the season was cancelled. Then, in 2021, it was a 38-15 showing from the team which culminated in an appearance at the NAIA Opening Round. In the final season of his tenure with the Bulldogs, they reached new heights by winning 40 games for the first time in his stead. In addition, they reached the NAIA Opening Round in back-to-back years.

"It is an honor to be named the new head coach of the Southwestern College baseball program!" exclaimed Dawson. "I would like to thank the Director of Athletics, Jamie Adams, and the rest of the Southwestern College community for this opportunity. I want to give a special thanks to the assistant coaches, Tyler, Patrick, and Jerad, for all their hard work and making this transition as easy as possible. I am excited to start this adventure, and to build a program that is centered around development and helping these young men grow both on and off the field. My wife and I are thrilled to be a part of the Moundbuilder family and we are looking forward to our future here! Go Builders!"

Dawson will begin his work on Tuesday, June 7, and will reside in the town of Mulvane with his wife, Whitney.
