SC Men's and (RV) Women's Tennis Handle Bethany, Both Earning 7-0 Sweeps

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's and women's tennis team hosted the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) match play against the visiting swedes of Bethany College. The battle was as beautiful as the weather as both teams won their matchups 7-0 to continue to be undefeated in conference play.

For the women, it was Catherine Coe and Mariana Ochoa who started doubles for the Builders. Coe and Ochoa swiped their matchup, 6-2, to give the Builders an early lead. Grace Roberts and Jasmin Hauska did their part, as they added another 6-2 win to the SC side. To round things out, Emily Feihle and Ella Hartnett followed their teammates with a 6-2 victory to earn the doubles point for the Builder women.

In the men's doubles, Ryan Kitchin and Pablo Rodriquez teamed up to take the win over their opponents with a final 6-3. The second double match was won by Benjamin Erdmann and Logan Engela, who triumphed in a 6-2 victory. The third Builder doubles pair, Federico Poi and Albert Modol, earned their victory by a score of 6-1.

Coe started the Builders off in the top singles matchup and earned her victory by a score of 6-3, 6-2, while teammate Hauska snagged a 6-2, 6-2 win to give SC a third point. Ochoa and Roberts decided to join the victory run and won their matches 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1. Hartnett and Feihle both triumphed in their matchups, as they won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 to make the final score a 7-0 win for the Builder women.

Things were similar on the men's side, as Southwestern continued to shine against the Swedes. Poi grabbed a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the top singles match, while Kitchin joined the winning side with a 6-0, 6-2 conquest. Rodriquez's won his two sets 6-1, 6-1 whereas Modol won his sets 6-2, 6-0. Erdmann's 6-2, 6-1 triumph and Engela's 6-0, 7-5 win completed the Builders dominance in Saturday's matchup against the Swedes of Bethany College.

The two Builders squads will be back in action on Monday, March 27 when they host play against Ottawa University at T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. Both squads will be looking to reach the 3-0 mark in KCAC play this spring.
