Men's and Women's Indoor T&F Begin Season at Friends First Chance Qualifier

WICHITA, KAN. – The Southwestern College men's and women's track & field squads journeyed north to Wichita on Thursday, January 11th, for their first indoor meet of the season. The Friends University First Chance Qualifier, hosted by Friends University in Wichita, was highlighted with second place performance by Kyah Hill in the women's 200 meters final with a time of 26.22, a third-place performance by Alejandra Handie in the women's weight throw final with a mark of 14.17 meters, and a fifth-place performance by Keianna Harvell in the women's 600-meter final with a time of 1:58.63.

In the women's 60-meter final, Kyah Hill led the team with a 5th-place (8.03s) performance, followed by her teammate Meliah Hanna, who finished in 11th place (8.29s).

The women's 600-meter race ended in a 5th place (1:58.63) finish by Harvell, followed by Anzhelany Jordan, who placed 6th (1:58.96).

Another impressive performance was shown by Kloie Simons, who came in 7th place in the women's pole vault final, earning a mark of 2.72m.

In the women's weight throw final, Alejandra Handie celebrated a podium finish, earning 3rd place (14.17m). Her teammates Amethyst Thomas and Vanvessa Mendoza came in 14th (10.88m) and 17th place (8.67m).

On the men's side, it was Jamell Sanchez who impressed with a 6th-place performance in the men's 1000 meters final as he earned a time of 3:10.12.

In the men's long jump final, Jamell Toney-Black led the Builders with a 7th-place finish with a mark of 5.76m. He was followed by his teammates Thelonius Jones and Jack Titgemeyer, who finished in 8th place (5.75m) and 9th place (5.67m).

Trevor Peterson represented the Builders in the men's weight throw and earned 11th place with a mark of 11.61 meters.

For the men's 200-meter race, Kyle Richarson led the Builders as he finished the sprint in 11th place, timing 23.78 seconds. He was followed by Andrez Ramirez, who placed 15th with a time of 24. 36 seconds. Jamell Toney-Black and Jack Titgemeyer came in 21st and 23rd place with times of 25.03 and 25.16 seconds.

Another highlight of the day was shown by the men's 4 x 400 relay, as they finished in 5th place with a time of 3:45.05. (Andrez Ramirez, Jack Titgemeyer, Kyle Richardson, Tegun Tews)

The Builders track & field squads are back in action on Saturday, January 20th, when they compete at the Pittsburg State University Meet.
