Southwestern Track and Field Competes at Coach Richard Alsup Open

Winfield, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's track and field team put together a strong showing at the Coach Alsup Invitational, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University over the weekend. The Moundbuilders posted several competitive performances across multiple events.

In the sprints, Christopher Collier-Surly led the way in the 60-meter preliminaries, finishing 18th with a time of 7.19 seconds. Kyle Richardson (7.25) and Marshal Self (7.27) also placed in the top 30. In the 200 meters, Richardson and Self delivered standout performances, finishing 12th (22.87) and 13th (22.94), respectively.

Ricky Young turned in a solid outing in the distance events, clocking 2:03.33 in the 800 meters to place 26th and later recording a 4:52.71 in the mile. Derek Ponce-Gonzales also impressed in the 5000 meters, securing a time of 17:33.33 for 31st place.

In the field events, freshman Emerson Williams had a strong showing in the shot put, throwing 12.71 meters (41 feet, 8.5 inches) to place 17th. Anthony Mendoza followed with a best mark of 11.14 meters (36 feet, 6.75 inches). Freshman Lyrix Howard cleared 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches) in the high jump, finishing 23rd.
