Winfield, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's track and field team put together a strong showing at the Wichita Invitational, with multiple athletes turning in competitive performances across sprints, middle distance, hurdles, and field events.
Freshman Marshal Self delivered an impressive outing in the 200 meters, finishing second overall with a time of 22.85 seconds. He also placed 11th in the 400 meters (51.94) and 31st in the 60-meter preliminaries (7.15). Junior Dashawn Haskin added to the team's success, clocking 23.14 in the 200 meters to place ninth and finishing fourth in the 400 meters (51.43).
In the 60-meter preliminaries, junior Christopher Collier-Surly led the Moundbuilders with a time of 7.07 seconds, placing 22nd overall. Freshman Dominique Orosco posted a solid meet, competing in multiple events, including a 53.49-second finish in the 400 meters (22nd place) and a 24.12-second effort in the 200 meters (29th place).
The middle-distance events saw freshman Ricky Young claim an eighth-place finish in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:05.17. Freshman Derek Ponce-Gonzales had a busy day, finishing 27th in the mile (4:57.52) and 15th in the 3,000 meters (9:55.32). Junior Jamell Sanchez also competed in both events, placing 42nd in the mile (5:18.82) and 23rd in the 3,000 meters (10:44.52).
