WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College will honor seven seniors Saturday when the Moundbuilders host Kansas Wesleyan University in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Jantz Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Southwestern enters the contest 9-7 overall and 6-5 in KCAC play, sitting fifth in the conference standings. Kansas Wesleyan (9-3-3, 6-3-2 KCAC) is one spot ahead in fourth. Both teams are looking to improve their postseason positioning with one week remaining in the regular season.
The Moundbuilders will recognize goalkeepers Andre Luiten and KJ Masso; midfielders Connor Inlow and Jack Bagley-Etheridge; defenders Alexis Soriano and Mateus Varotti; and forward Carlos Suarez before the match. The senior class has provided leadership and consistency throughout the season and has been instrumental in the team's progress under head coach Joe Wood.
Southwestern is coming off a 2-1 loss to Ottawa University on Wednesday. Inlow scored the Builders' lone goal, while Masso made several key saves in net. Despite a strong defensive showing, the Builders were unable to convert late scoring opportunities.
Bagley-Etheridge leads Southwestern with 15 goals and five assists, ranking among the KCAC's top scorers. Masso has started every match, logging 1,413 minutes and recording 73 saves this season. Soriano and Varotti have anchored the back line, while Suarez provides speed and attacking depth up front.
For Kansas Wesleyan, Noel Zimbeva leads the Coyotes with seven goals and two assists, followed by Mateo Hoyos with six goals. Goalkeeper Shae Wirt has made 46 saves over 1,335 minutes in goal.
Southwestern trails Kansas Wesleyan by one spot in the KCAC standings and could move up the table with a win Saturday. The match will also mark the Moundbuilders' final home appearance of the regular season. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Senior Night festivities before kickoff.
