Southwestern Heads to York for KCAC Quarterfinal Matchup

WINFIELD, Kans. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team will travel to York University for a KCAC Tournament quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Moundbuilders enter postseason play as the No. 5 seed after finishing conference action with a 7-6 record, while the Panthers hold the No. 4 seed with an 8-2-3 mark.

The matchup features two evenly matched sides that met earlier this season in the second conference contest of the year. York came away with a narrow 1-0 victory after Lucas Moraes scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute. Despite outshooting the Panthers 5-4, Southwestern was unable to capitalize on several scoring chances.

KJ Masso played all 90 minutes in goal for Southwestern in that meeting, recording three saves, while York's goalkeeper Jamie Watt finished with five saves to preserve the shutout.

Masso has been a consistent presence in goal for the Builders throughout the year, playing 1,590 minutes while making 81 saves and allowing 30 goals. Offensively, Southwestern has been strong, tallying 41 goals as a team this season. Jack Bagley-Etheridge leads the Builders with 18 goals, ranking among the top scorers in the KCAC, while Marcos Benavidez has added nine to bolster the attack.

The Builders have shown resilience late in the season, picking up key conference wins to secure their spot in the tournament. Tuesday's matchup gives Southwestern a chance to avenge its early-season loss and earn a trip to the KCAC semifinals.
