WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College continues its preseason road swing November 5th, visiting Peru State for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
The Lady Builders opened their 2025–26 campaign with a 68–51 win at Manhattan Christian on Oct. 27, using a balanced effort and strong rebounding to take control. Freshman forward Aubrey Pond led Southwestern with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and eight rebounds. Senior guard Macey Pond added 14 points and eight boards, while senior center Allyson Frank chipped in eight points and five rebounds in just 15 minutes.
Southwestern finished 38.9% from the field and 25% from 3-point range (9-for-36) while holding Manhattan Christian to 33.8% shooting. The Builders owned a 40–33 rebounding edge and committed only seven turnovers.
Peru State (2–2) enters the matchup averaging 75.3 points per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 43.5% from beyond the arc. Junior forward Erison Vonderschmidt leads the Bobcats with 22.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on 63.8% shooting. Junior center Kylie Diaz adds 21.0 points and a team-best 9.3 rebounds, while senior guard Savannah Bingham contributes 11.3 points and has made eight of her 16 3-point attempts. Sophomore guard MaKinley Tobey provides steady perimeter play at 8.8 points and 2.3 assists per contest.
Turnovers have been an early issue for the Bobcats, averaging 19.3 per game, something Southwestern will look to exploit. The Builders forced 11 turnovers in their opener and scored seven points off takeaways while limiting Manhattan Christian to just two steals.
The key matchup will be on the boards, where Diaz and Vonderschmidt lead a Peru State team pulling down 38.5 rebounds per game against Southwestern's front line, anchored by the Pond sisters. If the Lady Builders can control the glass and maintain their efficient shot selection inside, they'll have a chance to build on their strong start.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Al Wheeler Activity Center in Peru, Nebraska.
