WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College came up short against Avila University on Friday night, falling 5-2 in a competitive men's tennis dual at home.
The Moundbuilders picked up one victory in doubles action, as Jeremiah Jones and Drake Lowe secured a 6-2 win over Drew Collins and Robbie Jenkins. However, Avila claimed the doubles point by winning the other two doubles matches. Connor Stampley and Kobe Schlegel fell 2-6 to Jenkins and Brian Lowe in the deciding match.
In singles play, Lowe earned Southwestern's lone singles victory with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 win over Collins. Jones battled but dropped his match to Logan Davis, 6-4, 6-4. Stampley fell to Ross Davis, 1-6, 1-6, while Schlegel fought through a tough three-setter before ultimately losing 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 to Dan Chen.
