WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns home Saturday to host York University (Neb.) at 5 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in a Kansas Conference women's soccer matchup.
The Moundbuilders (0-3) are still searching for their first win after a weather-delayed conference opener against Friends on Wednesday was suspended in the 61st minute with the score tied 0-0. That match will resume Monday in Wichita with 29:53 left to play. Southwestern goalkeeper Hayden Clark kept the Builders in the contest with three saves, including a stop on a point-blank chance early in the second half. Adi Pemberton recorded the lone shot of the night for Southwestern before the delay.
Through three games, Southwestern has been led offensively by Millie Hazzard and Natalie Belanger, who have one goal apiece. The Builders have scored two goals on 14 total shots this season while Clark has made 31 saves with a .838 save percentage in net.
York (0-4-1) enters Saturday winless but tested. The Panthers have been outscored 9-2 this season and are coming off a 4-0 road loss to Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday. Lucia Tornero and Ellie Reynolds account for York's goals, while goalkeeper Harumi Cornejo has made 29 saves across five starts.
The teams are 1-1-1 against each other over the past three seasons. Last year, York earned a 3-0 win at home, while the 2023 meeting in Winfield ended in a 1-1 draw. Southwestern's lone win in the series came in 2022, a 1-0 road victory.
Saturday's meeting continues a balanced series before Southwestern heads back to Wichita on Monday to finish the weather-delayed match at Friends.
