WINFIELD, Kan. —BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Southwestern will travel to face top-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in a key KCAC men's soccer matchup.
Southwestern moved into a tie for second in the KCAC with a 6-1 win over Sterling on Saturday, fueled by four goals from senior
Jack Bagley-Etheridge.
Connor Inlow scored in the second minute and later set up Bagley-Etheridge, who struck twice before halftime and twice more early in the second half to bring his season total to 13.
Christian Banda capped the scoring in the 89th as the Builders (6-3, 3-1 KCAC) outshot Sterling 28-6. Southwestern has now won three of its first four league matches heading into Wednesday's showdown at defending champion Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Oklahoma Wesleyan enters the week unbeaten at 5-0-3 overall and 3-0-1 in KCAC play, with 10 goals scored in its first four conference matches. Adrian Mejia leads the league in scoring with four goals in KCAC play, followed by Carter Ligi with three. Goalkeeper Stefan Schenk has anchored the defense, logging 270 minutes with eight saves and a .889 save percentage.
In last season's matchup, Oklahoma Wesleyan handed Southwestern a 4-0 defeat, holding the Builders to just three shots. The Eagles got goals from Matheus Ulrich, Pol Mur, Lucas Miranda and Adrian Mejia. Southwestern goalkeeper KJ Masso finished with seven saves, while Archer Bridges added two in relief.
This year's Builders bring balance, with a reinforced back line and an attack that has become one of the league's most dangerous. The defense is anchored by newcomers Luis Le Moignan and Nicola Antiglio alongside returner Adrian Gimenez, with Masso steady in net. On the other end, Bagley-Etheridge leads the way with six goals in KCAC play, while Marcos Benavidez has added four and Bernabe Lopez two. Inlow and Banda have one apiece, giving Southwestern 14 goals through its first four conference matches.
Southwestern now gets its chance to test that progress against the KCAC's perennial power on Wednesday night.
