WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College junior Cameron Surles has been named the NAIA Men's Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Surles, a native of Broken Arrow, Okla., earned the honor after finishing first at the Evangel Fall Invitational. He finished the tournament at 9-under-par (201), shooting rounds of 70, 67 and 64 to earn a two-stroke victory over Friends University's Laken Matthews.
After opening with an even-par 70, Surles shot a 3-under-par 67 in the second round before closing the tournament with a 6-under-par 64, the lowest round of the event.
Surles finished the tournament with 27 consecutive bogey-free holes, recording nine birdies and an eagle during that stretch. His performance also helped the Moundbuilders finish seventh overall while recording season-low team scores in both the second and third rounds.
The national recognition comes after Surles was named the KCAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Monday. Wednesday's honor marks the final NAIA Men's Golfer of the Week award of the fall season, with weekly awards set to resume in March.
