WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College women's basketball team enters the 2026-27 season with a new-look roster as the Moundbuilders look to take the next step under second-year head coach Josh Burt.
Burt returns to the sidelines alongside graduate assistant coaches Eddie Braatz and Marta Pons-Gomez, both entering their second seasons with the program. After finishing 4-24 a season ago, Southwestern will look to establish a new foundation with five returning players and 12 incoming freshmen.
Leading the returners is sophomore guard Breanna Goad, who started all 28 games last season and averaged 9.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Goad finished the year shooting 33% from the field, 32% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free-throw line.
Fellow sophomore Emma Parker also returns after appearing in all 28 games last season, making 11 starts. Parker averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds while playing 27 minutes per contest.
The Moundbuilders also bring back sophomore guards Monroe Swope and Abani Perdomo, along with junior guard Perla Hernandez. Swope appeared in 22 games last season, averaging 1.7 points per contest, while Perdomo saw action in 16 games.
Southwestern's biggest challenge will be developing its young roster, with 12 freshmen joining the program from high schools across the country. The incoming class features guards Emily Stephens, Isabella Small, Jaden Blackmer, Madeline Boyle and Alyna Clark, along with forwards Anna Price, Taylor McElroy, Emalina Guevara, Ashton Burgener, Kaci McHugh, Jayden Wells and Toni Hodges-Tipton.
With limited collegiate experience across the roster, the Moundbuilders will rely on their returning players to provide leadership as the freshmen adjust to the college game.
As Burt begins his second season leading the program, Southwestern will look to establish consistency, develop its young talent and make progress in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
