WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns to Broadway Sports Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 18, for a nonconference doubleheader against William Penn University (Iowa). First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for noon, with Game 2 to follow.
The Moundbuilders enter the twin bill 3-7 overall and 1-2 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Southwestern looks to build momentum at home against a William Penn squad off to a strong start.
Southwestern's offense has been paced by Raisean Dorsey, who leads the team with 14 hits and three home runs this season. Same Benz has added a spark to the lineup with 15 hits, including five doubles. Brice Nittler and Gabe Rodriguez have contributed seven hits apiece, helping provide depth through the order.
On the mound, Jaden Hensley has emerged as Southwestern's ace. Hensley led the Moundbuilders to their most recent win, a 6-4 victory over Avila University, pitching five innings and allowing six hits. Brock Cross shut the door in relief to secure the win.
William Penn comes into the matchup 5-1 overall and has yet to open conference play. The Statesmen feature a balanced offensive attack, with five players recording eight or more hits.
Keoni Yound leads William Penn with five home runs and 14 RBIs, while Jephson McGwire has added two home runs. The Statesmen' production throughout the lineup has fueled their early-season success.
Wednesday's doubleheader gives Southwestern another opportunity at home to compete against a well-rounded William Penn team as the Moundbuilders continue to fine-tune their approach in the early part of the season.
