WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns to Conference play Saturday, Feb. 7, traveling to Bethany College (Kan.) for a 1 p.m. matchup in Lindsborg, Kansas.
The Lady Builders enter the contest with a 4-19 overall record and an 0-17 mark in KCAC play, while Bethany comes in at 15-7 overall and 13-4 in conference action.
Saturday's game marks the second meeting of the season between the two programs after Bethany claimed an 86-77 win on Dec. 13 at Stewart Field House. Southwestern led 19-14 after the first quarter in that matchup and stayed within striking distance throughout before Bethany's shooting surge and late free throws sealed the outcome.
Macey Pond turned in one of the top performances of the season in the first meeting, finishing with 32 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Builders. Martha De La Rosa added 15 points, Kennedy Ford scored 12, and Breanna Goad contributed 11, as Southwestern connected on 12 3-pointers and shot 15-of-19 from the free-throw line.
Bethany countered with balanced scoring and efficiency, shooting 46.5 percent from the field and using 22 points off turnovers to take control, highlighted by a 30-point third quarter. Colbi Rignell scored 17 points in the win, while Lilyan Walden added 16 and Janae Black-Harmon finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Pond continues to pace Southwestern this season, averaging 16.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Ford is next at 11.0 points per game, followed by Goad at 10.4 and De La Rosa at 9.6. The Lady Builders are averaging 59.9 points per game this season.
Bethany has leaned on its depth and consistency throughout conference play. Rignell leads the Swedes at 14.4 points per game, while Black-Harmon adds 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. Unruh (10.9) and Hannah Moss (9.0) provide additional scoring threats as Bethany averages 70.4 points per game.
History favors the Swedes entering Saturday's contest. Southwestern has not won in the series since Jan. 10, 2018, and Bethany has claimed the last 16 meetings overall.
Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Lindsborg as the Lady Builders look to carry momentum from recent performances into the second meeting of the season and close the gap in the rivalry.
