WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College baseball team returns home this weekend for its home opener, hosting Peru State College in a pair of doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
First pitch for both days is scheduled for noon, with the second game to follow at 3 p.m. The four-game set will give the Moundbuilders an early-season opportunity to regroup after a challenging opening series on the road.
Southwestern is coming off two losses at Randall University last week. The Moundbuilders fell 6-3 in the opener despite six hits and two RBIs. Sam Benz led the offense with two hits, while Brice Nittler, Preston Carrillo, Cole Van Stone and Nathan Perez each recorded a hit.
Game two was a tight 9-8 loss, highlighted by a strong offensive showing from Southwestern. The Moundbuilders totaled 17 hits and five RBIs, with Benz and Raisean Avila-Dorsey each collecting three hits. Gabe Rodriguez went 4-for-5 at the plate to pace the lineup.
Southwestern will look to shake off the tough start and settle in at home as it continues to build momentum early in the season. The four-game series against Peru State serves as an early test for the Moundbuilders across all facets of the game as they aim to establish consistency moving forward.
