WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns home this weekend to host Sterling College in a three-game Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Broadway Sports Complex.
The series opens Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for noon and 3 p.m.
Southwestern enters the weekend at 8-19 overall and 5-13 in conference play, while Sterling sits at 13-14 overall and 7-7 in the KCAC.
The Moundbuilders are hitting .271 as a team with 12 home runs and 131 RBIs through 27 games. Raisean Dorsey leads the offense with a .378 average, 37 hits, and 26 RBIs, while Sam Benz is batting .354 with 26 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. Gabe Rodriguez (.364) and Koda Larsen (.307) have also provided consistent production in the lineup.
Sterling counters with a .295 team batting average and 20 home runs, including a team-best 41 RBIs from Emmanuel Huerta Cardenas, who is hitting .347 with seven home runs.
Chuck Lang is batting .368 with 27 runs scored, while Jackson Harding (.323, five home runs, 31 RBIs) adds additional power in the middle of the order.
On the mound, Southwestern has compiled a 9.53 team ERA, led by Jaden Hensley, who is 3-1 with a 3.75 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Sterling owns an 8.36 team ERA, with Jace Phillips (2-0, 5.24 ERA) and Landon Snyder (4-1, 9.09 ERA) among the top contributors.
Defensively, Sterling holds a slight edge with a .954 fielding percentage compared to Southwestern's .939.
The series presents an opportunity for Southwestern to close the gap in the conference standings against a Sterling team sitting near the middle of the KCAC race.
