MARYVILLE, Mo. — Southwestern College's men's and women's golf teams will travel north this weekend to compete in the Graceland University Spring Invitational, set for Friday and Saturday at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
The two-day tournament will feature 36 holes, with one round scheduled each day. Friday's round will begin with a 12 p.m. shotgun start, while Saturday's final round will also use a shotgun format, with the start time yet to be announced.
Mozingo Lake Golf Course, a par-72 layout, stretches up to 7,137 yards and features a maximum slope rating of 137. The event marks the first time this spring that Southwestern will compete on the course.
On the men's side, the Moundbuilders will send out a lineup of junior Jordan Clancy, sophomores Cameron Surles, Christian Campbell and Mitchell Lehman, and freshman Sydney Schrant. Southwestern enters the weekend coming off a fourth-place finish at the Crestview Spring Invitational.
The tournament presents an opportunity for the men's team to measure itself against unfamiliar competition, as no Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference programs are scheduled to compete. It also offers a chance to build momentum as the spring schedule begins to take shape.
For the women, seniors Lauren Kelly and Jodi Keener will compete as individuals. Like the men, the women's representatives will face a field without KCAC opponents, providing a broader look at how they stack up outside the conference.
With both teams stepping onto a course they have not yet seen this season, the weekend will serve as an early test and a chance to gain valuable experience heading into the heart of the spring campaign.
