Southwestern, Southwestern Christian Meet in Balanced Nonconference Showdown

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern will look to reset its momentum Tuesday afternoon as it hosts Southwestern Christian in a midweek non-conference matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Broadway Sports Complex.

The Moundbuilders enter the contest at 11-23 overall, including an 8-13 mark at home, and will aim to snap a four-game skid. Despite recent struggles, Southwestern has shown flashes offensively, hitting .273 as a team with 286 hits and 179 RBIs through 34 games.

Raisean Dorsey has paced the lineup, batting .400 with 48 hits, 34 RBIs, and five home runs, while Sam Benz has added a .358 average with 44 hits and 20 stolen bases. Koda Larsen (33 hits, 30 runs) and Gabe Rodriguez (.343 average) have also provided consistent production, helping the Builders average just over six runs per game.

On the mound, Southwestern has leaned on Jaden Hensley, who owns a 4-1 record and a 3.64 ERA across eight appearances, including six starts. Jaxon Burns (2-0, 6.00 ERA) has been a reliable option out of the bullpen, while the staff overall has combined for 184 strikeouts in 259 innings.

The Builders will be challenged by a Southwestern Christian squad that enters at 17-21 overall. The Eagles have matched Southwestern with a .273 team batting average, totaling 292 hits and 192 RBIs in 37 games.

Dario Paredes leads Southwestern Christian with nine home runs and 36 RBIs, while Royce Florenzano (.316, six home runs) and Elvis Rojas (.333, 37 hits) anchor a lineup that has produced 25 home runs as a team. Nate Anderson (.302) and Dominic Ornelas (.299) add depth to an offense that has drawn 180 walks and stolen 66 bases.

On the mound, the Eagles carry a 6.80 team ERA, led by Mozart Duarte (2-2, 4.25 ERA, 41 strikeouts) and Rolfy DePaula (3-3, 5.65 ERA, 38 strikeouts).

Tuesday's matchup presents an opportunity for Southwestern to regain momentum at home against a comparable offensive opponent, as both teams enter with identical .273 batting averages and similar production at the plate.
