NEWTON, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's and women's golf teams wrapped up competition at the Bethany College Classic this week at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
The Moundbuilders men's team placed 10th overall in the three-round event, finishing with a team total of 977 after posting rounds of 324, 326 and 327.
Nico Neuteboom led Southwestern, carding rounds of 78, 82 and 79 to finish tied for 34th at 23-over-par 239. Mitchel Lehman followed closely behind, improving in the final round with a 76 to finish at 242 (82-84-76), good for a tie for 45th.
Sydney Schrant recorded rounds of 84, 77 and 84 to finish at 245, tying for 48th place. Wyatt Geissler shot 80, 89 and 88 to finish at 257 (T-60th), while Jackson Payne rounded out the lineup with scores of 89, 83 and 90 for a 262 total, placing 63rd.
On the women's side, Southwestern competed with two individuals in the two-round event. Lauren Kelly turned in a strong performance, shooting 79 and 87 to finish sixth overall at 166 (+22). Jodi Keener posted rounds of 91 and 90 to finish tied for 22nd at 181.
The tournament provided a key opportunity for the women's team to gain familiarity with Sand Creek Station, the site of the upcoming KCAC Women's Stroke Play Championship later this month.
Southwestern now turns its attention to the final events of the season. The men will compete in the KCAC Men's Stroke Play Championship from April 20-22 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kansas. The women's championship is scheduled for April 27-29 at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
