WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern returns home Thursday looking to bounce back as it hosts Kansas Christian for a nonconference doubleheader at Broadway Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with Game 2 to follow at 4 p.m.
The Moundbuilders enter the matchup after dropping both games of a KCAC doubleheader at Saint Mary earlier this week and will look to regroup offensively. Southwestern has shown flashes at the plate this season, led by Taylor Mesna, who is hitting .361 with a team-high 30 hits, and Tiara Henry, who has added 22 hits and nine RBIs.
Jolie Boyd and Lainey Hardman have also contributed steady production in the lineup, combining for 38 hits, while Ellie Kucera provides additional depth behind the plate.
In the circle, Faith Campbell has carried much of the workload, posting 56 strikeouts across 77.1 innings pitched this season. Southwestern will look for improved command and run support as it aims to slow opposing offenses.
Kansas Christian enters the doubleheader with a 6-6 record and a potent offense, batting .365 as a team with 115 hits and 98 runs scored through 12 games. The Falcons are led by Gabi Lopez, who is hitting .600, and Cambree Prescott, who is batting .500 with 21 hits.
As a team, Kansas Christian has displayed aggressive baserunning and extra-base power, tallying 31 doubles and eight triples on the season.
Thursday's matchup will mark an opportunity for Southwestern to regain momentum and defend its home field as conference play continues to intensify.
