WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College women's soccer picked up its second straight KCAC road victory Wednesday evening, defeating the University of Saint Mary 1-0 in Leavenworth, Kan.
The win moves Southwestern to 2-1 in KCAC play and gives the Moundbuilders back-to-back victories after Saturday's 1-0 win over York. Southwestern has not allowed a goal in either of its last two matches.
Southwestern controlled much of the opening half, recording seven shots while holding Saint Mary to just one.
The Moundbuilders broke through in the 35th minute when Lou Forder found the back of the net to give Southwestern a 1-0 lead. The goal was Forder's first of the match and eventually stood as the game winner.
Southwestern continued to create opportunities after halftime with six more shots. Millie Hazzard put three shots on goal in the match, while Abigail Webb and Amiyah Baker each added a shot on goal. Jade Smallwood led the Moundbuilders with five total shots.
The defense held onto the another sone-goal advantage throughout the second half to secure hutout. Liliana Hernandez played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves as Southwestern finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots.
Southwestern remains on the road Saturday, Sept. 26, traveling to Sterling, Kan., to take on Sterling College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Sterling College Soccer Field.
