WINFIELD, Kan – On Saturday, the Southwestern College men's and women's outdoor track & field squads opened their seasons with a home meet, the 2023 SC Jinx Invite. Several impressive results were compiled by the Builders, including Keyshawn Jones, who narrowly edged an opponent for the victory in the men's 100m Dash. Rachel Booker also earned a win in the women's 100m Dash, as SC took the event on both sides. Kentayshija Pruitt was able to grab a 100m Hurdles win for the Builders, while Kirstin Hackney stood out with a dominant win in the women's 800m Run, as well. Austin Schaeffer raced to victory with one shoe for the last two laps of his 5000m victory, and Kloie Simons rounded out the list of event winners with her 9'6" Pole Vault effort.
In field events, Southwestern saw second-place finishes for the women from Ketura Earl in the Hammer Throw (128'7") and Meliah Hanna in the High Jump (4'7.75"). Gabby Murchison was also able to net a second-place finish in the Javelin, when she unfurled a 104'0" score on six successful tosses.
Jaylen Spencer had a nice afternoon in both the Shot Put and the Hammer Throw, as he finished in fourth and third in the events, respectively. His toss in the Shot Put traveled 36'5", and his Hammer Throw distance ended up at 107'7" after five successful attempts and one foul.
In addition to Southwestern's five wins on the track, they posted second, third and fourth-place finishes in the women's 200m Dash. Hanna (1:01.32), Pruitt (1:01.66) and Lauryn Terry (1:03.74) came in those places, respectively.
Southwestern's outdoor track & field season is just getting under way, and the squad already boasts a rather impressive start to the campaign. Next up for the squads is a trip to Wichita for the Friends Spring Open, which is a three-day event from Thursday, March 30 through Saturday, Apr. 1. The Builders will be looking to build upon a strong start to the 2023 season.
