SAGINAW, Tex. – The Ottawa University Braves continued their strong start to the season, sweeping the weekend series against Southwestern College with dominant performances in all three games at Saginaw High School.
Game 1: Braves Outlast Southwestern in 12-11 Thriller
The weekend opener turned into a slugfest as Ottawa edged Southwestern 12-11 in a high-scoring battle. Both teams traded blows throughout the game, with Southwestern putting up a three-run eighth inning to keep things tight.
Ottawa's offense delivered in the clutch, scoring key runs in the late innings to hold off a determined Southwestern rally. The Braves' bullpen managed to close the door despite a furious comeback attempt, securing the narrow victory to start the series.
Game 2: Braves Explode for 11-7 Win in Game Two
In the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, Ottawa's bats stayed hot, leading them to an 11-7 victory. Southwestern struck early, putting up three runs in the first two innings, but the Braves responded in kind, using a mix of power hitting and aggressive baserunning to pull away.
Southwestern's A. Brautman had a standout game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. However, Ottawa's relentless offense, paired with key defensive plays, sealed the deal for a 2-0 start to the series.
Game 3: Ottawa Completes the Sweep with 16-3 Rout
Sunday's series finale was all Braves as Ottawa dominated from the outset, securing a commanding 16-3 win. The Braves' offense erupted for 13 hits, including four doubles and two home runs, while their pitching staff shut down Southwestern's bats.
Ottawa put up three runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings before delivering the knockout blow with a seven-run sixth inning. Southwestern managed a late two-run push in the sixth, but it was far from enough to overcome Ottawa's offensive showcase.
With the weekend sweep, Ottawa improves to 10-1 on the season, while Southwestern falls to 1-6. The builders will look ahead to Mayville State University at home on Friday at 1:00 PM.Â
